Overview
The International Organization for Secure Commerce is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to developing and promoting secure business standards and practices which facilitate trade and commerce, promote regulatory compliance, and enhance the security of organizations and communities.  The IOSC offers facility audit and certification, professional education and training, and individual certification for qualified professionals.

IOSC activities are targeted at promoting free and secure trade, preventing terrorism and other crime, facilitating regulatory compliance and liaison, and providing professional standards and education.

Organization
The IOSC is organized as a not-for-profit corporation but is not established as a tax-exempt entity.  This creates a structure preventing directors and share holders from drawing capital out of the organization while avoiding some of the restrictions applied to tax-exempt entities.

The organization is controlled by a Board of Directors, with day-to-day operations managed by an Executive Director.  Additional guidance and input is provided by committees made up of organization members.

Activities
The IOSC has activities in three main areas; Standards, Education and Certification.

The Secure Commerce ProtocolsT, the standards developed by the IOSC, represent best practices for commerce security.  The standards include such areas as secure international trade, regulatory compliance, business continuity, secure process integration, and Lean SecurityT.  The Secure Commerce Protocols meet or exceed the requirements of C-TPAT, BASC and the World Customs Organization, and are the basis for the education and certification programs.

The education program is designed to provide the information and training necessary to implement and manage secure business processes in an organization.  Training is divided into 11 bodies of knowledge which, combined, form the Secure Commerce Protocols.  Training is available through educational institutions such as UTEP, or via seminars or workshops delivered to an organization or group.

The certification program offers two kinds of certifications: Individual certification of professionals and facilities certification.  The certification of individuals is based on training attendance, professional experience and continuing education.  The facilities certification results from successful completion of an audit against the Secure Commerce Protocols.

Membership
Membership in the IOSC is open to any individual with an interest in commerce security.  Our membership fees are $100 US per year, with discounts available for law enforcement, regulatory personnel, and students.  Through our membership program we hope to develop chapters across the US and around the world.  Members are also encouraged to serve on one of our committees, helping to guide and manage our operations.
